| • STIC-European Consultation: 
                  - Concluding Meeting 
 STIC-European Consultation was started in November 2002 and 
                  has concluded on 17th December 2003 with the formal adoption 
                  of two-year program. STIC Europe objectives are to:
 1. Mobilise European purchasing and financial power
 2. Mobilise the European driven global supply chains
 3. Create a platform for political debate at European level
 4. Partnerships with STIC’s
 5. Pool resources and support STIC International
 This meeting was the Concluding Meeting of STIC Europe activities 
                    carried out during November 2002-December 2003, as well as 
                    a meeting for discussion on the proposed 2-year program of 
                    STIC –Europe. The meeting was divided in three sessions: 
                   Session 1: To map the challenges of sustainable tradeSession 2: Regional Strategy of STIC-Europe
 Session 3: STIC Hub
 Among others, the following dignitaries and organizations 
                    participated in the meeting: STIC Chairperson (Minister Ngubane), 
                    STIC Executive Director (Mrs Ritu Kumar), EPE team, eco-tex 
                    Consortium, Carrefour, Delhaize, UNEP, European Network of 
                    Responsible Consumption, PWC, City of Göteborg, Eco-Conseil 
                    Entreprise, Union Des Industries Textiles Francaises, ADEME 
                    (French Agency for Environment and Energy Management) and 
                    others.  Observers for the meeting were EURATEX, IUCN (The World Conservation 
                    Union), DEFRA, OECD, CBI (Centre for Promotion of Imports 
                    from Developing Countries, Rotterdam).  Dr. Ansari from eco-tex Consortium submitted a progress report 
                    on the activities made so far under STIC Textile Pilot Initiative 
                    and this report was circulated to the participants of the 
                    meeting. Besides this, a document on “Sustainability 
                    Cent” prepared jointly by eco-tex Consortium and EPE 
                    was made for the circulation to the participants. In addition, 
                    EPE has circulated a STIC brochure containing STIC European 
                    Consultation Report, STIC directory, presentations made by 
                    EPE and eco-tex Consortium. Session 1 focussed more on mapping the challenges of sustainable 
                    trade, STIC three main fields of action, STIC-Europe mandate, 
                    European Union Sustainable Trade Action Plan. The presentation 
                    for session 1 was made by Mr. Raymond van Ermen (EPE). Session 
                    2 focussed the Regional Strategy of STIC-Europe and the Proposals 
                    for the Partnership with other STICs. Mr. Willie Beuth of 
                    eco-tex Consortium and Mr. Raymond van Ermen made presentations 
                    for the session 2.  Mr. Willie Beuth made a presentation on „Proposal for 
                    the Partnership with other STICs“, including STIC-Textile 
                    Pilot Initiative (Objectives, Actors, Methodology, Strategy, 
                    Progress made so far on pilot initiative). The presentation and work done by eco-tex Consortium was 
                    highly appreciated by the participants, particularly the comments 
                    from Minister Ngubane (“Mr. Willie Beuth is expressing 
                    the complex issues of textile into simple and understanding 
                    ways”) and from Delhaize group (Mr. Willie Beuth is 
                    speaking the practical approach”).
   STIC-Europe Concluding Meeting in Brussels on 17.12.2003. Participants
