  24.10.2003   Successful Investment in Vietnam
In the framework of a DEG (German Investment and Development Society) information seminar about successful Investment in Vietnam, eco-tex has presented its actual Program on Public Private Partnership (PPP) conducted in Vietnam.

On October, 1st the DEG, a sub-organisation of Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), has conducted a information seminar about their investment activities in Vietnam. In this framework the Managing Director of eco-tex, Willie Beuth, has reported about the current PPP-Project in Vietnam. The aim of eco-tex project is to strengthen the competitiveness of Vietnamese SME in the garment and textile sector.

In view of the end of quotas in the textile sector by the end of 2004, the pressure of competition on small and medium enterprises enterprises (SME) in Asia will be stronger than ever. Expensive testing and certification for various individual standards to meet buyers' demands are not affordable for the SME. This will be classified as an exclusion criterion. It is therefore important for the SME to develop and carry out appropriate systems to improve their competitiveness in the textile industry.

In the framework of the German federal development partnership with private enterprise, the DEG has launched a project, together with the eco-tex Institute, for the purpose of providing information, awareness and know-how to the target groups in Vietnam. Eco-tex is specialized in the auditing, consulting services and optimization of quality, ecological and social standards, particular in Asia. An important aspect of eco-tex's corporate philosophy is the adaptation of standards and improvements to meet local conditions. A standards-guarantee system, the CSM 2000, has been developed to help meet the previously inconsistent requirements of international buyers in the fields of quality, environmental, and social standards.

Through improved transparency and optimisation of the supply-chain, the SME in the textile and clothing industry will be given the chance to improve and stabilise their competitiveness and to provide improved work-security. This will be achieved through a standards-guarantee system, which will simultaneously fulfil the demands of international retailers and national laws and regulations. The training of local experts in marketing, auditing and certification within the integrated system will help in making it an integral part of the local Vietnamese market. This will help promote economic sustainability in the context of quality, environment, and social standards in South-East-Asia.

Actually eco-tex has conducted first training campaigns in Vietnam for consultancies, trainers and auditors in cooperation with local trade and industry authorities. In December 2003 first companies will be approached in order to start the implementation on the CSM 2000 standard in Vietnam.
